Fans of The Sandman are rallying for a second season of the Netflix series.
While The Sandman Season 1 has proven to be a resounding success many enthusiasts are beginning to worry about the shows fate. Despite holding the position of Netflixs most streamed series the company has yet to officially greenlight a second installment of Dreams live-action adventures. The lack of an announcement has sparked the #RenewSandman campaign on social media as fans voice their support for Neil Gaimans dark fantasy world.
While Netflix has yet to confirm anything about The Sandmans future Gaiman has reassured viewers that a return is becoming more and more possible. When asked about the odds of a renewal the acclaimed writer responded getting higher every day. Regardless of his optimism Gaiman has also cautioned fans about getting their hopes up stating that just because the adaptation proved to be a success doesnt necessarily guarantee a second season. Sandman is a really expensive show Gaiman said. And for Netflix to release the money to let us make another season we have to perform incredibly well. So yes weve been the top show in the world for the last two weeks. That still may not be enough.
If The Sandman does end up being canceled Gaiman has also reassured that the series could find a new life on a different streaming platform. When asked if the show could be shopped around to other services such as HBO Max Apple TV or Disney+ Gaiman responded that the option was possible.
Regardless of whether The Sandman is picked up for a second season the shows creative team is already developing the next chapter of Morpheus story. In some ways its easier [writing Season 2 scripts] because weve educated the audience to the basic ideas said executive producer David S. Goyer. Weve shown how the dreaming life can affect the waking world. With that groundwork done the show can now build on those themes.
