Disney Plus Andor scores big on Rotten Tomatoes earning the best rating in the Star Wars universe since The Mandalorian premiered in 2019.
The official Rotten Tomatoes rating for the Star Wars series Andor is the highest in the franchise since The Mandalorian. Andor which premiered on Disney+ with its first three episodes today is a prequel to the film Rogue One A Star Wars Story which explained how the Rebel Alliance was able to acquire the plans for the Empires Death Star and mount an attack with Luke Skywalker in the first Star Wars film A New Hope. One of the main characters of the film was Cassian Andor (Diego Luna) an intelligence officer who has worked with the rebellion for some time along with his trusty droid sidekick K-2SO (Alan Tudyk).
Andor which will be composed of two seasons with 12 episodes each follows the five years before Andors fateful Rogue One mission. Although the series features the return of several of the films characters including Forest Whitaker reprising his role as Saw Gerrera and Genevieve OReilly as Mon Mothma the series largely focuses on new characters who help Andor become the person he is when audiences first meet him. This includes the character who seems to be the primary antagonist of the series so far Kyle Soller as Syril Karn a Deputy Inspector who is hellbent on chasing down the rebel.
Now Andors score on the review aggregator service Rotten Tomatoes has officially dropped. With 229 ratings from critics (more than enough to make the score statistically significant) it officially has an 87% which is higher than both Obi-Wan Kenobi (82%) and The Book of Boba Fett (66%) as well as The Bad Batch season 1 (86%) and the 2019 film The Rise of Skywalker (52%). One has to look all the way back to The Mandalorian and its 93% score (for both seasons) to find a Star Wars property that has garnered more praise.
Andor comes at a slightly more complicated time in Star Wars history. While the property is still popular with viewers across the globe the transition of the live-action branch from theatrical films to streaming series has provided a couple bumps in the road. While the new series have generally been well-received The Book of Boba Fett split its time between telling the story of Boba Fett and eschewing his narrative in favor of the return of The Mandalorian a decision that drew the ire of many fans alternately because they wanted less distraction from the main Boba Fett storyline or they objected to such lush Mando episodes being inserted into an entirely different series.
A lot was riding on Andor as far as rehabilitating the franchise from that split reaction. Obi-Wan Kenobi (which saw the return of Ewan McGregor as Kenobi and Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader) was more or less a surefire nostalgia hit but this new series focusing on a character who hasnt existed in the franchise for very long could have been a major stumbling block for future series if people didnt enjoy it. Luckily for fans that certainly doesnt seem to be the case. With such a rush of positive reviews it is more or less certain that Andor will be Certified Fresh on the platform a distinction that only requires 20 reviews to be determined let alone 200.
