Riverdale star Lili Reinhart, who plays Betty Cooper on the show, opens up about season 7 ending the series, which is set to return in 2023 on The CW. 2022 has been a game-changing year for the WarnerMedia and Paramount-owned network as the majority ownership is being bought by Nexstar. While The CW has been known for its ambitious renewals in past years, 2022 became a different story as shows like Batwoman, Legends of Tomorrow, and more were canceled by The CW.

While several shows got the ax, The CW still has Riverdale coming back as it got picked up for season 7. However, after a lot of speculation and suggestive comments by various cast members, including Lili Reinhart, The CW announced back in May that Riverdale season 7 will officially be the show's final season. It's currently unknown how many episodes Riverdale season 7 will get and while it will premiere in 2023, there is no set plan yet for exactly when the show is coming back.

Reinhart, who has played Betty Cooper since Riverdale season 1, has opened up about the show coming to a conclusion. In a new interview with Variety, Reinhart chatted about seeing Riverdale season 7 officially head into its end For the 25-year old star, Reinhart spoke heavily about it being a bittersweet feeling to say goodbye to Riverdale, after having worked on the show since she was 18 years old.

"There are a lot of feelings. Bittersweet is the word, because I obviously will miss this group of people that I’ve been through half of my 20s with. We’ll never all be together again working on the same thing, so I recognize that and I think we all do and we all are sad about that. It will be a very sad day when it actually wraps, but I do think the show has done so much for all of us and we’re all so ready to show the world what else we’ve got. On that aspect, knowing what’s on the other side is super exciting. I’m incredibly excited for the projects that I’ve been developing with my production company over the last year and a half that we’ll be ready to shoot when “Riverdale” ends next summer. But going into this final season, I think we’re all like, “This is our last hurrah, let’s really try to celebrate each other and spend time with each other because we won’t get this again.”

Given how Riverdale season 6 ended, it will definitely be interesting to see how Reinhart's character and everyone else have their stories end. In the Riverdale season 6 finale, Cheryl Blossom managed to stop the comet, but because of the powers she had been infused with, it caused reality to get twisted. The final episode ended with all the characters being teenagers again, now living in the 1950s, with no memories of anything that had happened in Riverdale season 6, except for Jughead Jones.

With filming not set to happen for a while, only time will tell what is in store for Riverdale season 7. Once Riverdale ends, that will be the end for the Archieverse as Chilling Adventures of Sabrina got canceled on Netflix after four seasons, while Katy Keene lasted for just a year before it got axed by The CW. Whether or not the creators are planning to have Riverdale season 7 do a proper sendoff to the Archieverse as a whole remains to be seen. Given how showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa has said previously in interviews that Riverdale season 7 will be surprising, it will be intriguing to see how the series goes out when it returns in 2023.
